Biography

Richard Noel Shields, son of Thomas Jefferson Shields and Delark Stuckey. Richard married Lois Kelley.

Mr. Richard Noel Shields, 90 of Long Beach, died Friday, July 17 1996 in Gulfport.

Mr. Shields was born on October 12, 1907 and raised in Hattiesburg. He attended the Hattiesburg School System and was employed with Hulett-Winstead Funeral Home and Roseland Park Cemetery, from 1937 to 1966. He moved to Long Beach in 1966 and was employed by Reimann Funeral Home and Lang Funeral Home for many years. He was a member of Main St. Baptist Church and the Lions Club while living in Hattiesburg.

Mr. Shields was preceded in death by his two sisters, Frances S. Smith and Helen S. Summers, two brothers Eugene T. and Robert S. Shields, and one grandson, David S. McDonald.

Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Mrs. Lois Kelley Shields of Long Beach, two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda S. and Mac McDonald, and Roma S. and Duane De La Hunt, both of Gulfport, a sister, Mrs. Paul S. "Betty Jo" Turner of Hattiesburg, five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. today at Hulett-Winstead Funeral Home of Hattiesburg. A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. in the Roseland Park Cemetery.
