Ellen 'Nellie' Shine was born in 1863 at Shanagolden, County Limerick, Ireland. She was the daughter of Henry Shine (1833-1885) and Catherine Sheehy (1840-1902).
Ellen migrated to the Colony of Victoria (Australia) before 1886, per the ship Chimborazo.
Her younger brother William Shine travelled on the Liguria a year or so later. Onboard was Patrick "Pat" Nolan/Nowlan (abt.1856-1941) of Kilkenny. In 1886, and in Victoria, they married. [1]
They made their home at Carlton, in Melbourne's inner northern suburbs, raising a family of fifteen children.
Nellie passed away 28th November 1932 at Middle Park, Victoria, aged 69. [2] She was survived by 10 adult children.
She was buried in Melbourne Cemetery, Carlton North. [4] Pat. joined her in 1941.
