Mary was born in 1919. She was the daughter of Frank Shipley and Blanche Patterson. She passed away in 2010. [1]
"Mary Matilda (Shipley) Smith, the daughter of Frank and Blanche (Patterson) Shipley, was born on Saturday; November 22, 1919, in Algona; Kossuth County, Iowa. Mary attended the rural school in Sherman Township between LuVerne and Livermore, Iowa. On June 27, 1941,Mary was united in marriage with Chester E. Smith in Fairmont, Minnesota. The couple lived in Mason City, Iowa, all of their married lives except for three years when they farmed near Swea City, Iowa. Mary was an avid seamstress sewing clothes, quilting, and crocheting afghans and dresses for dolls. She was a hard worker and was always ready and willing to lend a helping hand to others. Mary loved horses and was an excellent rider. She enjoyed playing cards and dominos with her husband, mother-in-law, and friends. Mary loved camping and traveling. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren. Those who knew her well, cared deeply for her. She will be missed. Mary Matilda (Shipley) Smith, age 90, passed away on Thursday; April 1, 2010 at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City, Iowa." [2]
