Biography

Thomas Shipman was a lifelong Searcy Countian.

Thomas Wakefield Shipman was born on 27 February 1868 in Lewis, Searcy County, Arkansa, son of James Erwin Shipman and Mary Catherine (Hollabaugh) Shipman.[1][2]

Thomas married Fantie E. Boyd in 1890 in Searcy, Arkansas.[3] Their children were:

  1. Ola E. Shipman
  2. Myrtle O. Shipman.[4]

Thomas married Martha Horton on the 15th of December 1909 in Searcy County.[5] They did not have any children together. Thomas' mother died early in 1910 and his father came to live with his family.[6] His father died in 1916 and by 1920 it was just he and Martha living together.[7][8][9]

Thomas died on 20 September 1942 aged 74. He is buried in Sulphur Springs Cemetery, Searcy County.[10]

Obituary

Leslie, Sept 24-T W Shipman, 74, farmer and stockman of the Sulphur Springs community, died at his home Sunday night. Born in the community, he was a member of an early Searcy county family. He is survived by his wife, two daughters, Mrs Sam Blair of the Sulphur Springs community and Mrs M H Franks of Conway; and two sisters, Mrs J M Wallace of Fayetteville, and Mrs Cordelia Russell of Alvord, Texas.[11]

A slightly different version names the survivors by the spouses' names: Mrs Sam Blair, Marshall; Mrs Marvin Franks, Little Rock; Mrs John Wallace, Fayetteville and Mrs Steve Russell, Amarillo, Texas.[12]
