Parentage: It is possible that Sophronia was the daughter of Mary Mitchell, who would have been about 46 at the time of her birth. If she is the Sophronia Shippee, b. 1820, who later (as a widow?) married John Shippee/Shippey, this parentage becomes a little less likely, if still possible. There is a record of a land transaction between Alvin Coe (grantor) and Hosea Shippey (grantee) in Cayuga County, New York in July of 1814 (referencing Book F, July 1814, p. 387): United States, New York Land Records, 1630-1975, database with images, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QS7-L9WN-RCPH?cc=2078654&wc=M7H5-7P8%3A358133001%2C358254401 : [REFERENCE-ERROR]), Cayuga > Grantee index 1793-1836 vol 1-2 > image 168 of 484; multiple county courthouses, New York (accessed 30 Aug 2022). There were two men named Shippey in Cayuga County on the 1820 census, both in Sempronius. First, John Shippey, of an age to be Hosea's brother and who was married and had no children in his household: United States Census, 1820, database with images, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:33S7-9YB3-9D1H?cc=1803955&wc=3L7N-7MP%3A1586986403%2C1586987845%2C1586987849 : 16 July 2015), New York > Cayuga > Sempronius > image 6 of 18; citing NARA microfilm publication M33, (Washington D.C.: National Archives and Records Administration, n.d.) Marriage: If this Sophronia is the Sophronia Shippee who married Harvey Leaming in LaPorte County, Indiana in 1837, she would have been the sister of Harvey's stepmother, Rosanna (Shippee) Reynolds Leaming. Anderson-27719 14:14, 30 August 2022 (UTC)

Research Attempts: Attempts to find records for Sophronia Shippee or Sophronia (Shippee) Leaming, b. ca. 1816 have failed on Ancestry.com and FamilySearch.org. Attempts to locate documentation for the birth of Sophronia Shippee, b. 1820 (m. John Shippee), have likewise failed and the records found for her after her marriage to John do not mention an earlier marriage to Harvey Leaming. Anderson-27719 14:14, 30 August 2022 (UTC)
