He married Mary Ann Ort with whom he had several children, though his oldest children may have been from a previous marriage or two.
Shockey History & Genealogy includes this man as the son of Valentine Shockey (1785-1865), son of Christian Shockey (1756-1829). The Shockey Chronicles argue against this view but decline to place him in a family and suggest he may have been the son of Valentine’s brother, William Shockey (1786-). The 1820 and 1830 census records seems to indicate the he was not the son of Valentine for Elias was the only son that age in the family. DNA evidence does indicate that he was probably the grandson of Christian, so William is a good possibility for his father.
