Biography

Elijah Shockley was born in 1788, in Worcester county, Maryland, a son of Solomon Shockley, who was a veteran of the American Revolutionary War.

  • Solomon is honored by the Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution as Ancestor #A104156. Applications for membership in the Society of the DAR have been made by the descendants of his son, Elijah Shockley, who married Margaret Givan. [1]

On March 13, 1821, in Worcester county, Maryland, Elijah married Margaret Givan. [2] Elijah and Margaret are found on the United States Census of 1850, living in Worcester Parish, Worcester county, Maryland, with eight children: [3]

  • Purnell Shockley, born circa 1829 [5]
  • Salley E. Shockley, born circa 1830
  • Mary A. Shockley, born circa 1832, died February 27, 1905, second wife of Dewitt Clinton Fooks [6]
  • Margaret J. Shockley, born circa 1834
  • Isabella Shockley, born circa 1837
  • Rebecca Shockley, born circa 1837
  • Elijah Robert Shockley, born circa 1838, died 1888, married Amanda Riggin [7]
