Biography

While Mrs. George W. Snyder was working in the garden at her home in the west part of Hamilton about seven o'clock Monday evening when she was taken suddenly ill and died within a few minutes before she could be carried into the house. Her husband and daughter, Miss Jessie, were near her at the time. Heart trouble was pronounced to be the cause of her death although she had not been subject to similar attacks before and appeared to be in her usual health up to the time of being stricken down.

Mary Elizabeth Shockley was born in Ripley county, Indiana, April 18, 1848. When a small child her parents moved to Miller county, Missouri and in 1863 to Caldwell county. On October 25, 1866, she was united in marriage to Geo. W. Snyder of the same county and state, and for many years past they have made this city their home. To this union were born five children, of whom one is deceased and the remaining four--Mrs. James Todd, of Cowgill; Mrs. J. W. Buxton, of Kansas City; Mrs. J. D. Gibson, south of town; and Miss Jessie, who is at home--with the husband and father are left to mourn the separation.

Her religious training had been of the Methodist faith and her practical Christianity consisted of caring for the sick and relieving the distressed. The funeral services were conducted at the family residence Wednesday morning, July 4th,by Rev. J. D. Mendenhall, of the M. E. church, at ten o'clock, after which the remains were interred in Highland cemetery.
