Peter Shoeman, son of John Shoeman and Sarah Tressler or Dressler of Blair County, Pennsylvania, gave the ultimate sacrifice for his country in the Civil War. He died from injuries suffered in battle on 18 May 1864 at Emory General Hospital, Washington, D.C. The cause of death was listed as "Vulnus Sclofret", a wound inflicted by a gunshot. Peter is buried at Arlington National Cemetery in the oldest section, Section 27, Grave 200.
