Biography

Husband of Samantha Monroe Shoffner Son of James Jessee Lay & Dorcas Shoffner Some family records indicate David was born abt Apr 1844 in Claiborne County, TN. & died Abt. 1926 in Campbell County, TN. None of the dates have ever been proven

David Shoffner fought on the Union side during the Civil War, his rank being that of Private. According to Civil War Soldiers & Sailors System website, there is an alternate spelling for his name: Scheoffner.

TVA also has record of a David Shofner that was originally buried in the first Bakers Forge Cemetery, and moved here in 1934, as part of their Norris Dam Grave Relocation Project. They list his birth/death years as 1838/1922, and his cause of death as "OA". Since there are no dates on his stone, I can't be certain this is the same David Shoffner or not, but it would be a logical conclusion.

This information comes from Find A Grave contributor Don Sanford (#47054069):

"I have a publication of Norris Grave Removals which confirm David Shoffner was moved by the TVA from Bakers Forge to Bakers Forge Memorial Cemetery. Dates of birth & death are listed as 1834 - 1922. His son, W.B. (William Berry) Shoffner of Rt. 2, LaFallotte, TN gave the TVA authorization."
