Biography

Sarah Eveline Shrum lived in Appalachia, in Tennessee.

PARENTAGE

Sarah Eveline Shrum (daughter of Tilman D Shrum and Mary "Polly" Gifford)
Sarah is not listed in her father's 1897 Will.
However, she is on her father's census until age 21 (ref 1840/1850 census)
Some genealogies have Sarah as daughter of John Shrum and Elizabeth Wakefield,
but 1840 census records for John Shrum does not support this theroy.
Sarah Eveline Shrum(1828-1918), is on Tilmon D Shrum's 1840/1850 census.
The point of confusion may have arisen from the fact that Sarah's 2nd husband is Henry Lovelady (the widowed son-in-law of John Shrum).
Another puzzle:
Sarah lived with her parents through 1850, yet Sara is NOT named in a 1871 court case with her other siblings:
In a 1871 Macon Co., Tenn., court case (William C. Gammon vs. Barnett Gifford and others), William Gammon and his wife Mary Malinda Gifford asked for reimbursement from the children of Gideon Gifford, Sr. for the care of Mary's mother Catherine Slaughter Gifford in her old age. This case went on until 1875.
(reference full transcript in the profile of grandfather Gideon Gifford)
Excerpt: "Polly Shrum who is dead leaving Gideon, John, Joel, Mary, Malvina and Jane Shrum as her children"
Note: Mary "Polly" Gifford Shrum is the step-daughter of Catherine Slaughter Gifford.
Did Sarah help care for her grandmother, and therefore not being sued?
Is it possible that Sarah is the orphaned child of another SHRUM relative (not John)?
It would really help if the 1830 census of Tilman D Shrum could be located.

Notes on Find A Grave Memorial# 12586939. By: Tom Sisco
Sarah Eveline Shrum is the daughter of Tilman D Shrum and Mary Gifford. She was born in Tennessee, probably Jackson or Macon County. She met and married Jacob Sisco, son of Sanders C Sisco Sr., about 1849. To this marriage were born seven children. Sarah lived in the Jackson/Macon county area until the family moved to Neosho, Missouri around 1855 where she had two sons John and William. Although the family can't be found in 1860 census I believe they were on the road back to Jackson County. This is based on her daughter Barzilla Francis being born in April 1861. After returning to Jackson County, Sarah had 4 more children, two boys and two girls. Sarah's husband Jacob died about 1874 and she stayed in the area until early 1890's with her son William Henry doing the farming. Sometime in the early 1890's Sarah and the rest of her family moved to Carroll County, Arkansas. She reconnected with Henry M Lovelady and married on Aug 20 1897 in Taney County, Missouri. Her oldest daughter was living there and she might have been living with them at the time. They remained married until Henry died in 1912. Sarah then went to live with John and Lucinda Shrum near Dry Fork, Arkansas where she passed in 1918. She was buried at the Liberty Cemetery, near Dry Fork.
I found her grave about 1995 and placed a small stone behind her damaged original. Sarah is my 2nd great grandmother.
