Biography

Benjamin Sidney was born in about 1743 in Redcliffe, in Bristol, England, and he was christened there in Temple Church on the 4th of July 1743. Benjamin's parents were John Sidney and Ann (Purnell) Sidney.[1][2]

Benjamin was the fifth of six children born to his parents John and Ann; Benjamin's five siblings were John (1732),[3] Ann (1734 - bf.1740) who died in childhood,[4] Benjamin (1737 - bf.1743) who died in childhood,[5] Anne (1740),[6] and Hannah (1745),[7] who were all born in Redcliffe and christened there in Temple Church.

In 1765 when Benjamin was about 22 years old he married Jane Hampton in Bristol on the 1st of July.[8]

Benjamin and Jane had at least four children together who were John (1765 - bf.1771) who died in childhood,[9] Hannah (1767),[10] John (1771),[11] and Henry (1773),[12] who were all born in Redcliffe, while the oldest John and Hannah were christened in Temple Church, and the younger John and Henry were christened there in Saint Mary's.
