Biography

Frank Marion Siler, Jr was born October 12, 1931 in Alva, Kentucky (Harlan County). His parents were Francis (Frank) Marion Siler, Sr (born July 26, 1890 in Cane Creek, Kentucky) and Ida (Carter) Siler (born October 10, 1899 in Pleasant View, Kentucky).

Frank was 5’6” tall with brown hair and blue eyes. He was a Christian of the Baptist faith, though after marriage attended the Catholic Church with his family.

Frank was born and raised in Eastern Kentucky. He was valedictorian of the 1948 class at Pleasant View High School, graduating when he was 16. He attended Cumberland College on scholarship, where here received a two-year Electrical Degree. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951-1955, serving during the Korean War. Frank settled in Oak Ridge, TN after leaving the Air Force in 1955. He met Frances Buck in Oak Ridge and they were married on October 15, 1955. ^[1]

Frank and Frances had six children: Patricia Lynn, Frank Marion III, James Nathan, Stanley Alan, Peggy Louise and Thomas Gregory.

They stayed in Oak Ridge until 1962 when they moved across the river to Claxton, TN. Frank returned to college after his 6 children were born and obtained an BS in Electrical Engineering in December 1968 from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. He then went to work for The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) at Bull Run Fossil plant. In the summer of 1969, Frank and Frances with their 6 children moved to Greenville, KY where Frank worked for TVA at Paradise Fossil Plant. Then, on Thanksgiving day, 1970, the family moved to Athens, AL where Frank, still with TVA, transferred to TVA’s Brown’s Ferry Nuclear Plant to do start-up testing. A short 8 months later, in 1971, Frank transferred within TVA yet again, to Chattanooga’s Sequoia Nuclear Plant where he once again did start-up testing. Frank’s final position with TVA was as a manager in TVA’s corporate offices in Chattanooga (over the Maintenance Instrumentation and Controls Group) until his death in 1990.

Franks’ favorite hobby was fishing. He also enjoyed playing bridge and bowling.

Frank died in Chattanooga, Tennessee on June 6, 1990 from a heart attack. He is buried in Hamilton Memorial Gardens in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Frank's dad, Frank Sr and brother William are working in the coal mines as coal loaders.
