DEATH OF MR W. BOYD SIME.
Mr William Boyd Stine, of Messrs Sime, Williamson & Co. manufacturers, Hawick, passed away on Monday evening in a Nursing Home in Edinburgh, after a short, sharp illness and following upon an operation. Mr Sime was a son of the late Mr William Sime, a partner in the firm of Messrs Sime, Sanderson & Co., Botany Mills, Gaminels. He came to Hawick when a young man, the firm of Sims, Williamson & Co. being founded at Weensland Mill in 1889. Success attended the project, and a few years ago the firm removed to more extensive premises at Dean Mills (formerly Howland' Mills). Mr Sine possessed first-rate business abilities., and was justly regarded as a leader in the Scottish woollen trade. He held the Wane of president of the Scottish Woollen Manufacturers' Association for two years (1913-15) and acted as president of the South of Scotland Chamber of Commerce in 1908. In the deliberations of the Chamber of Commerce he took a very practical interest, his sound judgment and business acumen being appreciated by his fellow. members. By the employees of the firm Mr Sime was esteemed for his many estimable qualities. He was keenly interested in Imperial affairs, especially in regard to our commercial relations, and, without being a prominent party man, was deeply interested in the trend of current events. On the question of tariff reform, when controversy waged, Mr Sime held pronounced views. In earlier years he was a prominent footballer, rendering good service in the ranks of the Gala Club. Latterly be was a successful tennis player, and was fond of cycling. A few years ago, he built the residence of Coille, situated fully two miles from the town and commanding an extensive view.
Mr Sime married the younger daughter of Colonel Scott Elliot of Teviot Lodge. He is survived by a widow and family of three sons and one daughter, for whom, in their bereavement, the deepest sympathy is felt. The funeral, which was of a private character, took place yesterday forenoon, the interment being in Wilton Cemetery. Mr Sime's brother, ex-Bailie James Boyd Sime, a partner in the firm is at present with the forces in France. Mr Sime's demise, at the comparatively early age of forty-nine, and in the midst of an active and prosperous business career, is deeply deplored in the community, where his sterling qualities had gained for him many friends.
