Richard was born in 1933. He was the son of Trevor Joseph Simmonds and Margaret Trafford Simmonds-322 Trafford-156
Richard was a hard grafter and at an early age owned a BSA Golden Flash 750 cc, he used to leave our backyard and by the time he hit the road was going at speed, so much so he was often caught by the local Cop.
He was a Horse Rider and used to compete in Gymkhanas and at the Local A&P Shows.
On leaving School he went down to Flock House a Farming College in the Rangitikei area.
I recall him ringing home and told Dad that "We get milk from Bulls down here" It took Dad a while to cotton on to the fact that his leg was being pulled - there was a Small town down the road called Bulls where there was a Milk Plant.

He did two tours of duty up there, raised enough money to contemplate marriage and buying a herd of Cows and going Sharemilking.,
