Family name may have originally been "Simonis" per father's name, but recorded as "Simmons" in 1880 census and thereafter. Two daughters ID'ed by Family Search.
John Simmons (M 4) was recorded in the 1880 U.S. Census, residing in Turkey Creek, Kosciusko, Indiana, in the household of father Joseph Simmons (M 27, farmer) along with mother Louisa Simmons (F 23, housekeeping) and sister Sarah A Simmons (F 1). Joseph was born in Prussia and the others in Indiana.
