DEATH OF MR. WILLIAM SIMMONS.[5] It is with feelings of deep regret that we record the death of Mr. William Simmons, who for the past ten years filled the position of telegraph operator at the Post and Telegraph Office of this town. Mr. Simmons was in his usual health until Sunday last, when he became unwell, his ailment being some derangement of the bowels. Dr. Lee was called in, but his skill proved unavailing, and on Tuesday Mr. Simmons was so seriously ill that Dr. Kerr was called on to consult with Dr. Lee. Nothing, however, could be done to alleviate his sufferings, and he expired at about noon yesterday. During the lengthy period Mr. Simmons filled his position, at the Telegraph Office he was most efficient and painstaking in the performance of his duties and courteous and obliging to all with whom he came in contact. By his decease the department and public have lost a most worthy officer. He leaves behind him a widow and three young children, with whom much sympathy is expressed in their sore bereavement.
