Biography
Joseph Simons was born in Stoke Damerel, Devon, England.
Joseph William Simons, son of Joseph Simons (bef.1800-1863) and Elizabeth (Bartlett) Simons (bef.1801-1888), was born in Stoke Damerel, Devon, England in 1840.[1]
In 1841, one year old Joseph was with his parents, siblings and grandfather, William Bartlett, in William St, Devonport, Stoke Damerel, Devon, England.[2] In 1851, 10 year old Joseph was a Scholar living at 1 Hood Place, Morice Town, Stoke Damerel, Devon, England, along with his parents, siblings, and grandfather, William Bartlett.[3][4] In 1861, the 20 year old joseph was an unmarried "Plasterer" living at 1 Hood Pl, Morice Town, Stoke Damerel, Devon, England, with his parents, two sisters, and cousin Elizabeth Bartlett.[5]
On 26 February 1862, Joseph and his younger sister Catherine were witnesses to his older sister Elizabeth's marriage to Joshua Bowden.[6]
Joseph Simons was an Assisted Immigrant to South Australia.
In 1865, Joseph emigrated to South Australia aboard the "Electric", arriving in Adelaide on 23 September 1865.[7][8][9][10]
