Biography
Ulrich was adopted by his maternal grandparents, Glasgow and Callie Thompson. I remember being told as a child about an adoption of one of my grandfathers and that the real last name was Simpson.

I have hit a brick wall here. I can't find any information about William A. Simpson other than what is listed here.
