Biography

Robert was born in 1841 Canobolas, NSW to James Simpson and Agnes (Scott) Simpson [1], and was christened 28 Jun 1842 [2].

Robert Simpson was born in the Colony of New South Wales (1788-1900)

He and wife Betty (Sharp) Simpson had about 5 children, and they lived at Currajong (Road) in 1901,[3] and out on the Forbes Road near Parkes (at least 1913-1930). Robert's occupation is listed as labourer in local records, more specifically his obituary (below) lists that he was a miner. [4] He passed away in 1930. [5]

Extract from The Orange Leader - 13/1/1930: Obituary - Mr Robert Simpson. Mr Robert Simpson aged ~87, formerly of Forbes Road, Parkes, died at his residence on Tuesday morning, after an illness of three weeks. The late Mr Simpson was born at Canobolas, near Orange and subsequently held land at Molong and Coates Creek, coming to Parkes about 45 years ago. Subsequently he went to Parkes, where he worked as a miner for a number of years. A widow and large family are left to mourn his loss. Members of the family still living are Alice; George and Thomas (Parkes); Robert (Fifield); Martin (Condobolin); William (Moss Vale); Mrs E. Sharpe (Bogan Gate); Mrs B. Guthrie (Cumnock) and Miss Emily Simpson (Orange). [6]
