Joseph was born in Liverpool, Lancashire, England, om=n December 22, 1892. [1] He was the son of Joseph Simpson and Mary Ann Kennedy. He was baptized on December 31, 1892, in Liverpool, at St Vincent de Paul,.[2] He was enumerated in the 1901 census [3] as an eight year old residing with his parents and five siblings at 67 Manchester Street, Heywood (Liverpool). His father's occupation "French Polisher". His mother died in 1906. Joseph was living with his widowed father and three siblings at 3 Princess Street, Hopwood, Heywood in 1911.[4] He was nineteen, single, and a "Bottle Washer".
Joseph married Annie Murphy in 1921.[5] The marriage was registered in the fourth quarter in Prestwich, Lancashire. The couple had at least four children. Joseph and Annie appeared in the 1939 Register residing at 42 Bosworth Square, Rochedale, Lancashire, in 1939. His occupation "French Polisher and Cellulose Sprayer". One child listed, three redacted entries at address. (Note..redacted entries appear on following page).[6]
Joseph passed away on September 23, 1963, in Rochdale, Lancashire.[7] He was buried at Rochdale Cemetery and Crematorium.[8]
