Biography

Charles was born in November of 1845 in Buckingham County, Virginia to William David Simpson Sr and Mary Jane Ragland. He is listed with his parents in Buckingham County on the 1850 Census[1] and by the 1860 Census the family is listed in Mecklenburg County.[2] He married Virginia Arabella Smith on June 6, 1867 in Nelson County.[3][4] He is listed with Virginia (aka Jennie) on the 1870 Census[5] in Nelson County, and on the 1880 Census[6] in Lynchburg, Virginia. Records indicate that they had seven children before his wife passed away in 1891:

  4. Nolly Pinkleton Simpson Sr (1876–1950)[10]

  6. Sallie Simpson (1879–1886)[12]
  7. Hallie Virginia (Simpson) Conley (1882–1928)[13]

After the death of his wife he is listed with his younger children in the home of his son; George on the 1900 Census.[14] He passed away in 1905 at the age of 60 and is buried in the Presbyterian Cemetery in Lynchburg, Lynchburg City, Virginia.[15]
