Andrew Simpson was born on 30 December 1859 in Lasswade, Midlothian, Scotland, son of George Simpson and Euphemia (Simpson) Brown.^[1][2]

He married Margaret Black on 25 July 1884 at Woodside Cottage, Cockpen, Midlothian, Scotland. He was a foundry worker living at 26 Polton Street, Bonnyrigg, Midlothian.^[3] They had 5 children.
