Meshach was born about 1824 in Ohio. He was a professor at Wilberforce University where he was in charge of the shoemaking department.^[1]

Meshach married Martha Guy on 1 January 1852 in Morgan County, Ohio.^[2] In 1860 Meshach and Martha were living with a possible daughter in Meigs, Ohio.^[3] Around 1863 he was listed in a Civil War Draft registration for Meigs, Ohio.^[4]

In 1880 Meshach and Martha were living in Zanesville, Ohio with 6 children.^[5]

In 1900 Meshach and Martha were still in Zanesville, Ohio with three adult children and a son-in-law.^[6]

He passed away in 1903 and was buried in Woodlawn Cemetery in Zanesville, Ohio.^[7]

Meshach is listed as white in the 1860 and 1870 census and draft record, but as mulatto or black in 1880 and 1900 census records.
