Death of Wm. H. Skehan.
William H. Skehan, one of the most prominent men of the section in which he lived, died at Birchville, Nevada Co., last Friday night, of heart failure. According to the Grass Valley Tidings, “Mr. Skehan was a man of sterling integrity and broad ideas, and was esteemed and respected by all who knew him. He came to Nevada county thirty years ago, and during most of that time he has made his home in the house in which he died.” Besides the wife the following are left to mourn his loss; Four daughters —Misses Kate and Theresa Skehan of Auburn, Mrs. Frank Poole of Marysville, and Miss Celia Skehan of Birchville; a stepdaughter, Mrs. J. E. Walsh of Auburn, and a stepson, Thomas Ryan; and two sisters, Mrs. Daly and Mrs. Phelan, of Butte, Mont. The funeral was held at Grass Valley Monday, Rev. Father Gilmartin, of Nevada City, officiating. Interment in the Catholic cemetery at Greenwood, Nevada county. Mrs. Poole and Misses Theresa and Celia Skehan were at the bedside of their father when he died, but Mrs. Walsh and Miss Kate Skehan did not reach there till the following day. Mr. Walsh left here Saturday, and he and his wife returned Monday night. The Misses Kate and Theresa Skehan will remain with their mother for a time. The many friends of the family in Auburn will sympathize with them in their affliction.
