Biography

This profile is part of the Skinner Name Study.

Sarah Skinner was born in 1778 in New Jersey to Timothy and Patience Skinner. Her father was having problems with the new American government and was jailed for a time. A publication of the Skinner family at this time ^[1] This is a well referenced document which shows that Timothy Skinner and family left New Jersey for Canada after his time in Jail in 1783. It was declared that he arrived with eight children, 3 boys 1 girl over 10 and 3 girls 1 boy under 10, Therefore Sarah who was one of the girls under 10, born in 1778 had to be born in the United States.

Sarah was likely married between her 18th birthday and the year before the birth of her first child, which is between 1796 and 1801. On the website, Niagarasettlers2/Bertie-Township, there is a land transaction on 13 June 1807 "Jacob Haun and Sarah his wife sold property ^[2]

Note Ancestry DNA ThruLines shows that I share DNA with descendants of Sarah Skinner's sibblings. So Sarah had to be married to Jacob Haun

It appears that Sarah Haun died before 1828 as the 1828 Bertie census shows the Jacob Haun household included two boys over 16 and two girls under 16 but no female over 16. ^[3] The last reference to Sarah Haun was September 1815 at reading of her father's will.
