Biography

In 1889, Milton and Susan Sloan had a son. Abel would grow up in Aubry, Kansas. He moved to California where he met Frances Elizabeth Spain. They married and moved back to Kansas where they started their family. They would eventually have nine children. Abel was skilled in farming, although he made a living at times doing other things.

Abel was a good Christian man and made sure his children were raised in the Catholic Church.

Abel and his family moved to Holly, Colorado where he was a sharecropper. Some of their children were born here and were christened at Saint Francis of Rome Catholic Church. Eventually, they moved on...

During the Great Depression, Abel's family was starving in the Black Hills of Colorado. The US government came in and saved many families by relocating them to the San Luis Valley. They were given 80 acres and a house. This property was south of Alamosa, Colorado. It provided the family with a meager subsistence, but, there was food and warmth.

Frances preceded Abel in death by one month. Both are buried at Mt. Olivet along with many other family members.
