Biography

Mary R Smith was born in 1867, she married Frank Baker Chambers on February 16, 1888. They had two children, Robert and David, during their marriage. Mary passed away in 1950 and is buried with her husband and sons at Unionville Cemetery in Unionville Chester County, Pennsylvania, USA

Member of a Unionville Bridge Club, which she entertained at the big farmhouse. Her father was a leader in a nearby Baptist church, but she married a descendant of the early Quaker immigrants to Pennsylvania. After her husband Franklin Chambers retired from their farm, they moved to an apartment in West Chester PA.

From one of his trips to Montana to buy cattle, Franklin Chambers came home with a horse for his grandson Bob. He used to tease a rooster to get it to fight him. Sadly, it also tried to fight with Franklin’s wife, MAME; after one attack, she called the hired hand and told him to slaughter that rooster for dinner. Franklin used to sit in his inherited Morris chair in the bay window of the dining room, with his feet up on the steam radiator, looking down the hill toward Unionville at the bottom of his property. His farm in Unionville went to his remaining son Robert (Sr.), but his other property, which included part ownership of the Unionville Bank, went to the children of deceased son David.

  • First hand knowledge by grandson Robert Baker Chambers Jr.
