Biography
Fannie Douglass Smith was born on August 3, 1864 in Middletown, Ohio.[1] She was the daughter of George Cooper Smith and Emma Leadman.[2][3] Fannie married Walter Lawrence Tobey on December 19, 1894 in Butler County.[4] The young couple was married by Fannie's great-uncle, J. T. Bail.[4] Fannie and Walter did not have any children.[5][6] She didn't state that she was a writer for a newspaper syndicate until the 1930 census[7], but she wrote and sang prior to that time.[1] Fannie's mother Emma Leadman Smith lived with the couple after Fannie's father, George, died.[5][6]
According to the memorial on FindAGrave, Fannie served as the regent from 1926-1928 of the Daughters of the American Revolution.[1]
She died on November 4, 1947 in Longview Hospital of cancer which had metastasized.[8] Fannie is buried in Oxford Cemetery, Oxford (Butler County), Ohio[1]
