In the James pedigree in Miscellanea Genealogica et Heraldica[1] presumably developed from the James pedigrees in the Visitations of Surrey[2], Kent[3] and Essex[4], Etheldreda [Audrey] Smith was noted as the wife of George James, son of Roger James van Haestricht and Sarah Morskyn. Audrey was the daughter of John Smith of Southwark, Surrey. Her sister Gertrude married Richard James the brother of George James, and it is presumed that their elder sister Sarah married Roger James the eldest son of Roger James van Haestricht and Sarah Morskyn.
Audrey was noted in the will of her father John Smithe of St Saviour Southwark, beer brewer, the will made on 16 Apr 1591 and proved on 15 Jan 1591/1592 at which time she was unmarried.[5][6]
