Biography
Reginald Forster Smith[1][2] was born 16 September 1878[1][2][3] in Lowell, Massachusetts[2].
He married Mayme Davies sometime between 1942[2] and his death in 1951[3]. In 1940 he was listed as widowed in the census[4] so he had probably been previously married. At the time he was the owner of the St. John hotel in Oakland, California[4]. He would later own the Metro Hotel in San Francisco[3] with his wife Mayme.
Ralph suffered a fall down about twenty steps while carrying groceries upstairs in his hotel[3] on 16 June 1951[3]. He was admitted to the San Francisco Hospital and treated for skull fracture, then discharged to his home on 23 July 1951[3]. After his condition failed to improve, he was admitted to Maimonides Hospital on 3 August[3] and then readmitted to San Francisco Hospital on 8 August[3]. He was moved to Lagunda Honda Home on 30 August[3] where he remained until his death on 24 November 1951[3]. The final cause of death was determined to be bronchopneumonia following his skull fracture[3]. Because his death occurred under unusual circumstances, it was investigated by the county coroner[3] who after autopsy found the death to be accidental[3].
