Samuel was born in 1853. He was the son of Samuel Smith and Maria Buck. He passed away in 1935.

• Obituary

MR. S. R. SMITH. Mr. Samuel Robert Smith, who died at his home, Dunbar Terrace, Helmsdale, on December 24, was born at Alberton on February 4, 1853. He was in the employ of the Adelaide Steamship Company for more than twenty years, finally as chief steward. After leaving the sea he conducted a bakery business at Malvern until his retirement. He later went on a world tour, and on his return made his home at Glenelg, where he has been a resident for the past 28 years. His wife pre-deceased him six and a half years ago. Three sons and three daughters survive-Miss A. Smith, Helmsdale; Mrs. Ern Sprigg, Mile End; Mrs. Stan Dowling, Helmsdale; Mr. Bert Smith, Mile End; and Messrs. Cliff and Syd Smith, Helmsdale. There are eleven grandchildren.^[1]
