Biography

FAG: Squire was the son of William Asburry Green and Melissa (Williams) Smith.

Madison County Record, Huntsville, AR. Thur, 1 Jan. 1948 "Squire John Smith (commonly known as Uncle John) was born Oct. 22, 1861, near Witter, Madison county, Ark. and died near the Cove school house at the home of a son, Dec. 20, 1947. He passed away at the old home, where he had spent his entire life, except six years.

He married Abbie Burnett Feb. 11, 1883. Surviving him are 9 children, Mrs. Martha Lane, Westville, OK.; Mrs. May Coulter and Mrs. Julia Chase, Benicia, CA; Mrs. Addie Hamilton, Stilwell, OK; Mrs. Cassie Kaylor, Las Vegas, Nevada; Mrs. Charley Smith, Pettigrew; Mrs.Elva Silvis, Huntsville; Mrs. Alpha Barker, Combs; also 46 grandchildren, 75 gr-grand children. His wife and one daughter, Turley preceded him in death. He was a faithful Christian and affiliated with the Christian Union church.

Burial was in Cove Cemetery Dec. 22, with the Bruce Brashears Funeral Home of Huntsville in charge of arrangements.
