William was born on 8 October, 1850, to William Smith and Ann Morgan recorded in the Kemnay parish register.
William married ... ? ... and was widowed.
In 1883, William, then a tailor, remarried, to Mary Gill, the widow of Robert Mutch, in Newhills. They stayed in Newhills until at least 1891, when he was working as a paper maker, and living with Mary and their adopted daughter, Violet.
He died after Mary, on 26 July 1930, still living in Newhills. He was survived by his daughter Violet.
The birth record of William is recorded in the parish record of Kemnay, but suggests that they lived in "Craigcam". Could be "Craigdam", but that's a good distance away. 21/10/1850 SMITH, WILLIAM (Old Parish Registers Births 207/ 20 58 Kemnay) Page 58 of 99, National Records of Scotland, image via scotlandspeople.gov.uk (paid access required) at link scotlandspeople, accessed 2021-12-08 by John Clements

Her father is listed as Edward Gill, a Crofter, and her mother as Marjory Gill, maiden surname Burr.[1]

The note about Monymusk doesn't match other information, but the remainder of the information fits well. Monymusk appears to be about 4 miles from Kemnay.[2]
I have not searched for census records between 1891 and his death in 1930.Clements-5400
There's a record of William's death, in 1930.[3] It contains lots of information. Among other things, it indicates that Violet Peterson, the Informant, is his adopted daughter. It specifies that he is the widower of Mary Gill (who therefore must have died before 1930), that he was a Paper ... Melliriorhes (? illegible), that he died at Stoneywood Road, Newhills, on 26 July, 1930, at 6:50 AM, age 79 years, that he was the son of William Smith and Ann Morgan, both deceased, that he'd had Chronic Bronchitis for 10 years and 9 days of pneumonia, also 10 years of chronic myocarditis.
