Jeremiah had at least six children. After his death intestate in 1845, his children took part in litigation, filed as a "Bill in Equity" in the Rhode Island Supreme Court in 1850, captioned as George Law et al v. Russel Smith et al. to divide up his estate. The litigation ended in 1855. The litigation identified his surviving children as Alcy Law (wife to George Law), Sophia Eastman (wife to Rufus Eastman), Russel Smith, Stephen Smith, and Amasa Smith, and his deceased child as Mary Page (late wife to Stephen Page). The Pages had at least eight children then living -- Laura Ann Page, Seneca Page, Smith W. Page, Jeremiah Page, Mary Jane Page, Martha Page, Eunice Caroline Page, and Allen Page, the last four being under 21 in 1850. The complaint states that Jeremiah Smith married Betsy Convers in about 1831, and that Mary Page died in January 1850. The gist of the complaint is that Jeremiah Smith advanced parts of his estate to his sons but not to his daughters and that the daughters wanted their equitable shares. Betsy Convers Smith is not a party; it appears that she had a life estate in the property and that delayed the litigation.
