Biography

Dora Belle Smith/Bauer was born in Erie County, Pennsylvania the daughter of William A. Smith and Clara Griffen Smith. She was the oldest of 12 children. 7 sisters and 4 brothers. Dora was married October 25th 1911 to Forrest C. Bauer who passed away in 1918 while serving in the U,S Army. She had a daughter Ethel born 1912 and a son Harold born 1915. After the death of her husband she was the cook at St. Elmo Hotel in Lake Chautauqua,N,Y. for many years. She was also a long time member of the Bethel Baptist Church in Erie.Pa. In the 20's & 3o's she lived on and off with her parents, For most of the 40's she lived with her daughter and then with her son until the late 50's She then lived with her daughter at various locations until her daughter passed away in Sunrise,Florida in November of 1974. Dora moved back to Erie where she remained until she died in Erie at age 92 at Doctors Osteopathic Hospital in December of 1981. She is buried at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Erie, Pennsylvania.
