Evelyn was born Dec 2, 1919 @ home in Ferry, Oceana County, Michigan to Delbert Hamilton Smith and Hannah Elizabeth (Loetsch) Smith. They had two children: Milton b.1923 and Evelyn. This family were farmers and Evelyn was a farmers daughter and grew up working with her dad on the farm. She drove wagons, plows both powered by two big work horses. She worked out in the Orchards and fields with her dad, milked the cows, churned the butter, stacked hay, chopped wood and stacked it and helped her mom in the garden and canning for winter, Evelyn's parents were fairly tall, Delbert 6' 4" and Hannah 5'10" so Evelyn grew to be 5' 11 1/2" and Milton around 6'2", both were very thin. Milton loved Mechanical work, music was a favorite.
