Note N1539The Willis Smith who married Martha Deese in Newton County appears to be the same Willis who was living in Troup County, Georgia in 1850 and in Heard County in 1860, though he is younger in the later census. His place of birth is reported to be either North or South Carolina. If this is the son of John Smith who was gratned a headright of 200 acres, based on himself only, then it seems unlikely that he was born in the Carolinas, unless John did not moved to Georgia until later.
