Biography

Anna Rebecca Smith was born on 18 June 1844 in Alabama. She was the daughter of John C Smith and Elizabeth Sewell.

According to handed-down family information, Anna married Mathew Champion "Math" Norton on 6 July 1860 in Cherokee County, Alabama. This marriage record was destroyed in the courthouse fire in 1882.

Anna passed away on 15 February 1915 according to the date on her gravemarker at Lebanon United Methodist Church Cemetery in Pleasant Gap.

Death of Mrs. Anne Norton.

Died -- Near Spring Garden, on February 14th, Mrs. Anne Norton, age about 72 years. She was wife of the late Math Norton, also sister of Mrs. Matildia Firestone, whose death was two weeks previous.

Mrs. Norton was a noble Christian woman, and has many friends who will grieve her loss. Condolence to the bereaved.
