1930 US Federal Census
In 1930, Victor E. Karnes, 29, a geologist for an oil company, lived in a place he owned at 4134 Erie with his wife Gladys S., 24, and two children: Yvonne E. 3 [3 2/12]; and mother Pearl Karnes, 52. All were born in Texas. Victor was 29 and Gladys was 19 when they were married. Victor's parents were born in Texas, while Gladys's father was born in Holland and her mother in Texas. Pearl is divorced, and her parents were both born in Texas.[5]
1940 US Federal Census Houston, Harris, Texas
In 1940, H. Clay Martin, a 38 year old warrant officer for the city police department, lived in a house of Payne Road with his wife Gladys M., 34, and three children: Yvonne H. Martin, 13; Katherine H. Martin, 10; and Gwendolyn E. Martin, 3. All were born in Texas. The family lived in the same house in 1935.[6]
