Biography

William Snell was born in 1716. His place of birth was Ballymoney County Antrim Ireland. He was the son of William Snell of Coleraine, County Londonderry.^[1]

He married Martha Chauncy on 12 December 1749 at St Margaret's, Lothbury, London.^[2][3] Martha was the only surviving daughter of Charles Chauncy. Martha died in childbirth 13 July 1765.^[4]

William and Martha had three sons:

1. William
2. Charles
3. Nathaniel

He secondly married Mary Snell on 8 November 1766 at St George's Bloomsbury, London.^[5] Mary was the daughter of the Reverend Vyner Snell.^[6]

William and Mary had one son John.

William was a London-based West India merchant and slave-owner.^[7]

He died in 1779. ^[8] He was buried at Edmonton, Middlesex on 12 February 1779. ^[9]
