Biography

Ralph was the eldest son of William Sneyd and his wife Sarah née Wettenhall. He was baptised on 26 Dec 1669 at Burslem in Staffordshire.^[1].

He matriculated as an undergraduate of Brasenose College, Oxford on 18 Mar 1685/6, aged 16.^[2]. His sons Edward and Ralph would follow him to Oxford in due course (both at Magdalen College). He was also a student of Middle Temple, admitted 28 Nov 1685.^[3]

In 1689 or 1691 he married Elizabeth Bowyer, daughter and heiress of John Bowyer of Bishton and his wife Mary Baker.

He inherited the Dryden estate from his cousin John Sneyd of Keele in 1711.

He died on 3 Nov 1729 and was buried at Colwich.^{[4] [5]}
