Biography

Douglas was born in 1920. He was the son of Rev. George Southgate (1876-1922) and Esther Barclay. His father died when he was young and his mother moved to Normal, IL, where he grew up.

He served in the US Army Air Corps during WWII, as a C-46 and C-47 command pilot for the 374th Carrier Group. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Illinois in 1947 and worked in Chicago for two years.

He married Mary Sue Wilson in 1949. They moved from Georgia to Portland, OR, where they raised their family of three children.

He passed away in 2010.
