Samuel Adams Sowden was born about September 1826 and was baptised on 24 September 1826 in Saint Martin on Looe Bay, Cornwall^[1] the son of .

In the 1851 England Census Samuel is said to be aged 24 years and employed as a Servant for the Creber family at Walkhampton, Tavistock, Devon^[2].

Samuel married Grace Gorrell (<1820 - <1908) on 31 August 1856 at St Mary's Parish, Devonport^[3].

In the 1861 England Census Samuel is said to be aged 34 years and residing with his wife Grace at Stoke Damerel, Devon^[4].

In the 1871 England Census Samuel is said to be aged 44 years and residing with his wife Grace at Stoke Damerel^[5].

Samuel died mostlikely in the first few days of November 1906 at Stoke Damerel^[6] and was buried on 7 November 1906 at Stoke Damerel^[7].
