Biography
Jane Sowden is estimated to have been born in 1844 in Bodmin, Cornwall this is based on census information. She was the daughter of Samuel Sowden (abt.1808-) and Ann (Hawke) Sowden (abt.1811-).
In the 1851 England Census, Jane is said to be aged 7 years residing with parents at Helland, Bodmin, Cornwall[1].
In the 1861 England Census Jane is said to be aged 18 residing with her paternal uncle, Matthew Sowden (1804-) and his family at Penzance, Cornwall[2].
