Raymond Charles Sowton was born on January 17, 1890 in Devon, England, United Kingdom, son of John Sowton (1844–1899). Raymond's birth was registered in the Jan-Feb-Mar quarter of 1890 in the Tavistock district.^[1]

In the 1891 census Raymond (age 1) was the son of John Sowton in Devon, England.^[2].

In the 1911 census Raymond (age 21), Bank Cashier, was the single brother in law visitor of John Walters Adams in Plymouth, Devon, England.^[3].

Raymond's marriage to Olive M Colby was registered in the Jan-Feb-Mar quarter of 1913 in the Tavistock district.^[4].

In 1922 he and his wife, Olive Mary and children, Muriel Ethelwynne, Phyllis Mary and Raymond Lancelott arrived in the United States^[5].

In the 1940 census Charles (age 50) was the married head of household in Cadillac, Wexford, Michigan, United States.^[6].

Charles died on 11 June 1966 and was buried in Maple Hill Cemetery, Cadillac, Wexford County, Michigan, United States ^[7].
