Biography
Charlotte was the daughter of James and Mary Spain. She was baptised on June 25 1837 at st. Lawrence, Kent.
She arrived in New Zealand at age 5, with her mother and siblings, john and Elizabeth on the ship 'lloyds' from London. the ship docked in nelson on February 9 1842.
Charlotte married to Thomas astle of nelson but as yet the actual date of marriage is unsourced.
of the 5 births by charlotte, recorded between 1852 and 1860, only one child's name is given - mary charlotte. the 1858 birth was thomas jnr who died june 25 1863 age 5. charlotte's children are now known to be elizabeth, charles, thomas, john and charlotte thanks to a family descendant. charlotte astle died in 1901 age 68 and is buried at wakapuaka beside thomas.
