Alonzo Sydney Clive Sparkes was born on 15 May 1900 in Brisbane, Colony of Queensland, son of Alonzo Sparkes (1873–1936) and Elizabeth Reid Dempster Train (1880–1939).^{[1] [2]}

Alonzo (34) and Williamena Constance Hamilton (26) were married on 15 December 1934 in Brisbane ^[3]. Williamena was born on 26 February 1908 in Brisbane. Their known children were:

• Alonzo Clive William Sparkes (6 December 1935 – 0 August 2016)
• Jill Elizabeth Sparkes (1940 – 26 August 1985)
