Biography

George Thomas Spaulding was born in October 1876, at or about Woodbridge in the Colony of Tasmania, in what would later become Australia. He was the son of George Spaulding and Mary (nee Byrne).

In 1901 George Spaulding married Mabel Beatrice Hall (1877-1958). ^[1]

Three children are known:—

Conrad Brian Byrne (1904-?)

Leonie Irene Mary (1906-1933)

Neil Lennox Byrne (1908-?).

40 year old Gunner George Thomas Spaulding, a Mariner from Nubeena on Tasman's Peninsula in Tasmania, enlisted into the Australian Imperial Force (AIF). He is listed as having enlisted on the 19th of April 1917, though some records suggest this date should have been the 15th of March 1917. His Next of Kin was listed as his wife, Mrs Mabel Beatrice Spaulding also of Nubeena, Tasman's Peninsula, Tasmania. George was assigned to the Field Artillery Brigade, 31st Reinforcements, and this unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A15 Port Sydney on 9 November 1917. Gunner George Thomas Spaulding continued to serve with the Artillery Details for the rest of the war and returned to Australia on the 11th of December 1918.

George Thomas Spaulding passed away in 1931.
