Joannes Wilhelmus Spelthahn was born on February 28, 1761 in Teutelbroek, Limburg, Nederland, son of Franciscus Wilhelmus Spelthahn (abt. 1740– ) and Anna Margaretha Neander (abt. 1737–1793).
Joannes (26) married Maria Anna Esser (24) (born about 1762; daughter of Jan Esser (abt. 1735– ) and Elisabeth Kettens (1735– )) on April 23, 1787 in Kerkrade, Limburg. Their children were:
